Senior Scientist (Process Development)

PsiOxus Therapeutics Ltd is an Oxford based development stage biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, with a focus on immunotherapeutic approaches.  At PsiOxus we are advancing our internal early and clinical stage candidates and establishing strategic partnerships with immune-oncology leaders to bring our cancer gene therapy products to patients.

The Role

As a senior member of the team, the jobholder is expected to provide technical leadership in upstream and downstream development of Drug Product candidates. The core function of the role is to progress the selected Drug Product candidate towards cGMP manufacture and drive the process development activities as projects move towards technology transfer.

The work will involve design and execution of experiments to optimize the manufacturing process, emphasizing productivity and robustness, defining manufacturing process, preparing and reviewing development reports and assisting in tech transfer activities. The role entails supervision of junior scientists, providing technical training and will certainly require a close liaison with the team and other programme teams, including some liaison with teams in other organisations including CMO’s/CRO’s.

The Person

  • A proven scientist working in the establishment biological processes, with experience in process development/GMP/Pilot plant scale environments.
  • Essential to have a master’s or PhD in a relevant biological/engineering subject.
  • Essential to have several years hands-on industrial experience in protein and/or virus production from mammalian cell system.
  • Essential to have background in process development in small and larger scale up to 50L.
  • Experience in cGMP process development is desirable.
  • Experience in process analytics and analytical techniques HPLC, OD260/280 assay, potency assay, plaque assay, host cell protein and DNA would be seen as an advantage.
  • Ambitious to become a leader in Science and Technology within a fast-moving biotech start-up.
  • Self-starter who can quickly take the initiative in problem solving.
  • Professional and confident, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English language).
