Process Development Scientist

PsiOxus Therapeutics Ltd is an award winning Oxford based development stage biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, with a focus on immunotherapeutic approaches.  We have a first- generation oncolytic virus in Phase I/II clinical development and are developing an innovative pipeline of clinical, pre-clinical and research candidates using our proprietary T-SIGn cancer gene therapy platform technology.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Upstream Scientist to join us and be part of a Development team responsible for delivering improvements to the manufacturing process for our present clinical stage oncolytic vectors, as well as the next generation of viral cancer therapies.

Overall responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and optimize upstream processes for producing adenovirus vectors.

  • Execute small scale and laboratory scale bioreactor cell culture activities for scale-up/scale-down of existing bioprocesses, together with supporting new product process development and scale-up activities. This requires working with miniature cell-cultivation systems, the scale-up to larger bioreactors and use of associated analytical support equipment.

  • Involvement in activities ranging from vector manufacture, process optimization, technology transfer, and process validation associated with the manufacture of new gene therapy vectors.

  • Performing high-throughput upstream studies and applying DoE methods to cell culture activities.

  • Liaising with other members of the Process MS&T Group and assisting with other development activities where necessary.

  • Routinely interact with the Manufacturing team to facilitate technology transfer of processes to the manufacturing facility and/or external CMOs as necessary.

     

The successful applicant will hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline and have some experience of working within biological research/biotechnology or pharmaceutical manufacturing in a GMP environment. Experience of working a similar role as a Scientist or Engineer with mammalian cell culture expertise and an understanding of bioprocess development and bioprocess unit operations is essential, together with the following attributes:

  • A sound understanding of basic cell culture principles and processes

  • Experience with downstream processing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team and internal/external stakeholders.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Good organisational skills.
