Project Director

PsiOxus Therapeutics Ltd is an award winning Oxford based development stage biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, with a focus on immunotherapeutic approaches.  We have a first- generation oncolytic virus in Phase I/II clinical development and are developing an innovative pipeline of clinical, pre-clinical and research candidates using our proprietary T-SIGn cancer gene therapy platform technology.

We are looking for an experienced Project Director to be accountable for the leading the strategy and driving delivery of PsiOxus’ T-SIGn platform virus product(s) through the clinical development lifecycle, delivering key milestones and clinical results resulting in the commercialization and/or licensing of the product to a partner, according to corporate strategy. These cross functional projects are of significant value (£ ‘Ms) and should be delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards within an acceptable risk profile against a backdrop of potentially competing pipeline priorities.

 

The Role: Overall Responsibilities

  • As a passionate and delivery focused project management professional, the Project Director will be responsible for ensuring seamless operational execution of the project(s) from candidate selection through key project milestones to product commercialization or out-licensing to a partner. The Project Director’s focus is directed towards on time delivery, on cost, risks managed and quality achieved.

  • To direct, co-lead and develop cross-functional project teams comprising of multi-disciplines such as preclinical, regulatory, clinical, CMC/ manufacturing, quality, and translation medicine; internal and external members, (including, where necessary, consultants) to deliver the product lifecycle. 

  • Champion, represent and communicate project progress status and the different functional areas when dealing with internal stakeholders such as the Executive team, Board members and external stakeholders, on behalf of PsiOxus Therapeutics, as and when required.

  • To be accountable for the creation, management and execution of the target product profile and product development strategy for T-SIGn virus product(s) against the ability to achieve project goals in line with corporate strategy and objectives.

  • Be accountable for the project budget(s) by developing and reporting against the project budgets and managing any scope changes, budget deviations and exceptions, in conjunction with the Finance team.

 

Key Activities

  • Ensure the project is in control by: developing (guiding, directing, questioning etc.) the project team and track progress against a comprehensive project timeline; securing internal and external resources, monitoring and managing project risks and issues; and managing and communicating scope changes to the project.

  • Chair and lead project or ad hoc team meetings. Ensure meetings are efficient and effective.

  • Maintain accurate and complete project information including action, decision, issue and risk logs, circulate agendas/minutes, contingency planning, project related systems, tools, dashboards, reporting cascades and formulate options and scenario modelling activities as required. Ensure all work undertaken on the project is covered by the appropriate legal framework including CDAs, MSA, purchase orders and other such contracts and agreements and that the procurement process is adhered to for engaging new suppliers by working closely with the outsourcing team and other stakeholders.

  • Influence key stakeholders on behalf of the project and its strategic direction in line with corporate needs within the company governance structure to ensure project visibility and timely decisions.

  • In concert with senior management team set objectives and expectations for the project.

  • Project Issues Management - challenge, interrogate, escalate and ensure resolution of drug development issues across the project matrix, irrespective of the technical area in which they reside.

  • Ensure learning, transfer and utilization of project management and drug development best practices across projects.

  • Contribute to design, development, improvement or redesign of project management processes.

  • Act as an additional resource within the business during busy times to provide support and assistance as required to make PsiOxus a success.

 

The Person

Technical Experience

In order to be considered for this role candidates will ideally be postgraduate, PhD or MBA (or equivalent) and must have a minimum of 5 years project leadership experience of cross functional teams reflecting a track record of project delivery generating significant value to an industrial organization in the biotechnology or oncology field. (Cross functional is defined as preclinical, regulatory, manufacturing, analytical development, clinical, supply chain, quality and translation medicine.) You should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of biologics product development process.

Specific expertise in the development of virology, or oncology products is preferable; and direct project leadership with clinical operations experience of early and/or late stage clinical trials would be advantageous.

You should also be able to demonstrate the use of a project management tool kit in the areas of time, cost, quality and risk through the control of actions decisions and issue resolution; and have a good working knowledge of project management software including MS Project and Excel.
